The Old Red Lion is a pub located within the rural village of Great Brickhill, Buckinghamshire. It is surrounded by picturesque farming land and woodlands. Boasting a great history in the local area, the village has a notable affiliation with Oliver Cromwell, who resided opposite the pub for a number of weeks during the 17th Century.
With new ownership, the pub needed to establish itself as a destination at the heart of the community, bringing the local residents of Great Brickhill together under one roof for an exceptional culinary experience.

Cygnus' challenge was to deliver a unique approach by developing a consistent brand strategy, brand positioning and a new visual identity. Subsequently bringing all of the pub’s elements together creatively (the history, garden view, pub and restaurant) as a whole dining experience.
Focusing on the quality of service, our creative approach cascaded across all applications, bringing out the story of the Old Red Lion at every touchpoint. This included carefully crafted creative messaging regarding specially selected drinks, locally-sourced and seasonal foods, premium coffee, the picturesque views and an open fire pizza oven.

Heritage with a twist.
To highlight the heritage of the pub, illustrations were combined with other elements of the brand to create a collage effect; adding a modern twist in-line with the brand ethos. The contemporary colours, shapes and patterns were fused with more traditional illustrations to create an ownable style.
All touchpoints of the brand were created to deliver a seamless brand story.
An iconic brand.
The logo marque is built up of four separate icons. Each of these visualise separate elements of what the brand stands for. They all come together to create a modernised crest. The colour palette is inspired by the natural surroundings of The Old Red Lion.
Applications of the brand highlight this combination to bring a visually sophisticated aesthetic that is both stylish and welcoming. Engagement was a key objective, and this has been achieved through the presentation of the brand story, disseminated via creatively refined copywriting.

The brand ethos is presented in the physical environment; from soft furnishings and artisanal wall graphics, right through to glass vinyls on the exterior glass perimeter.
Digital storytelling.
To bring the story of the Old Red Lion to the world, the key messages and brand story were presented via a vibrant and welcoming website and social media channels. A combination of product and lifestyle photography were utilised to communicate the journey of ethically sourced food and the availability of a carefully selected drinks menu.
The digital outputs present the essence of the brand through meticulously considered detail, coupled with a tone of voice in-line with the characteristics of the unique Old Red Lion experience. These inviting touches are designed to tantalise and inspire customers to engage with their community and visit the pub to sample the delights that it has to offer.
