Opening minds, turning heads… and winning awards.

Opening minds, turning heads… and winning awards.

Creating memorable online experiences and bespoke websites is something we do for our clients every day. Towards the end of last year however, it was our turn, and quietly in the background we began to evolve and craft our own brand, and eventually launched our brand new website.

Cygnus win at the SME awards.

We always take pride in our work here at Cygnus, and our new website was certainly something everyone involved was extremely proud of. So, when the opportunity to enter our site into the Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire SME (Small Medium Enterprise) awards came about, we of course submitted our entry for “Website of the Year”.

We were delighted when we discovered we had been shortlisted. The competition was tough, but we booked our table at the awards night, and looked forward to the event.

Held on 14th February, in association with the University of Buckingham at The DoubleTree by Hilton hotel at Stadium:MK, the annual event celebrates local businesses in Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire, with the winners automatically entering the SME National awards at the iconic Wembley stadium. With 18 categories and over 300 business people attending it was set to be a great night!

Drinks on arrival and a fabulous three course meal got us into the spirit, and then the awards began. It seemed like a long wait as we watched other categories being awarded, and then it was the one we had been waiting for… Website of the Year. First the runner up was announced, not us, and then – “And the winner of Website of the Year 2019 goes to…” US! We did it.

The judges’ comments were “Impressive imagery, smooth as silk transitions and an enviable portfolio of work” – we knew we had a great website, but to hear others agree, appreciating our work and for it to be recognised at such a prestigious awards event is what makes all the hard work worth it.

So how did we go about creating our “award winning” (we can say that now) website? Our team created a showpiece with eye catching transitions from section to section and everything you’d expect from a modern website. The work and services are left to speak for themselves with beautiful imagery and considered content, but the real heroes of the show are our people and the creative culture that we collectively set as an agency. It creates a window in to Cygnus, and for people to see just what an amazing place it is to work.

Firstly, you can’t miss our new “a day in the life” video that comes in immediately from the home page, created as part of our rebrand to give a real glimpse into Cygnus life and what can be expected on a daily basis working with and for the company.

“We wanted a film that showed our personality as an agency. People buy people and we’re a truly collaborative bunch here who are great to work with. The film enabled us to not only show our people and make them feel valued, but communicate the type of work we do and the culture we set here at Cygnus”.

Creative Director: Jamie Rayner

To support the video, the site is laced with stunning new photography and boasts an entire section on US, highlighting “a collaborative culture where ideas flow freely and faces keep smiling”. It’s a home-from-home office environment here where people work hard, but know how to have fun.

The new site features a breakdown of the services that we can offer, which spans the entire agency spectrum, from Campaigns, to Branding, to Strategy and Digital online design and development.

It also highlights some of our very best work in the form of case studies for our clients including Papa John’s, Rightmove, UCC Coffee, SEAT and BP.

And then there’s the news section (you’re in this section right now), a space for our team members to express themselves and be heard, with opinions, views and latest updates, individually written. As the site says – “we are a mixed bunch who like to do things our way”.

Always keen to attract and encourage new talent, we wanted our new site to really show what it’s like to be part of the Cygnus family.

We’re really chuffed with our award, and are looking forward to the big one, the Nationals in December. The competition will be even tougher, but whatever the outcome, we’ve loved the journey so far.

“Our new site has been beautifully crafted, is intuitive, engaging and rich with content. It’s been a collaborative labour of love and the final result is a true reflection of our agency and the incredible partners and brands we work with. Great work team!”
